They are NOT original villains..They are the daughters of the Greek God Atlas..

if "Dwayne" wasn't such an ego maniac it should have been Black Adam as the villain in the sequel...with Mr. Mind in the background...But we know why that didn't happen...

Is My Adventures With Superman using the same character designers/animation studios as Korra/Legendary Defender? Cause it looks really similar.

As far as I can tell, this is all done in-house at WB Animation studios... the similarity to Korra and Voltron is most likely because they're going for an anime style not dissimilar from Teen Titans.

Absolutely. Especially when it comes to their animated universe(s)...

I just picked up Batman: The Doom That Came to Gotham and I am really impressed with it! The animation is solid, the voice acting is excellent, and the adaptation is quite faithful. It starts to fall a bit toward the end, and some of the changes might bother fans of the book, but those are small nits in an otherwise great movie. (Some parts of this are actually pretty disturbing/graphic too... and the language is par for 1920's, prohibition era America, lol)

This one came hot on the heels of The Legion of Superheroes which I really like as well!

I will continue to always look forward to the next DC Animated project.

I will be buying Batman: The Doom That Came To Gotham on Wednesday this week! Then later this year we'll get Justice League/RWBY: Super Heroes & Huntsmen Part 1 and Justice League War World.

I haven't watched The Doom That Came to Gotham yet.
Although I did really enjoy Gotham By Gaslight.
Also the Mattel DC Multiverse Gotham Gaslight Batman is a great figure.

Blue Beetle looks ok, although it looks like we’ve got the same goofy “discovering my powers” bit we had in Shazam as well.

It looks like the total gross income for Shazam: Fury of the Gods after the third week of release is $53.5 million domestically and $66 million internationally for a worldwide gross of $119.5 million.

    https://www.boxofficemojo.com/weekend/2023W13

It earned $4.6 million on its third week of release and looks like it will be a definite disappointment with an estimated budget of $110-125 million. How will this affect the perception of James Gunn's new slate of the DC films? Will the average film goer be excited about his fresh interpretation or will they even be aware? Will the hardcore DC film fan welcome yet another rebuilding of this universe or will they be hesitant...maybe even apathetic?

I wonder if the Flash movie will dig the grave even deeper or be a dim light among the darkness?

I don't care if critics or anyone else calls a movie a bomb, I never pay attention to them anyway, as long as I love, or at least like the movie that's all that matters to me. I haven't been able to see Shazam: Fury Of The Gods yet (I've had a lot going on), but I can't wait to see it and I look forward to the following DC movies in the cinema.

    The Flash
    Blue Beetle
    Aquaman And The Lost Kingdom

I also look forward to the non-DC movies in the cinema.

    The Little Mermaid
Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Mutant Mayhem

well, a bomb by definition merely means it did not make back it's budget. Plenty of actually good movies were still technically box office bombs. So it sadly does seem Shazam 2 will be a bomb, bit that doesn't mean it was bad.

Honestly I enjoyed it and really don't get what people's problem with it is. I thought it was on par with the first one which people seemed to enjoy so what's the deal?

I really enjoyed it too but no doubt that it will be classified as a bomb. Nevertheless, even if we don't get anymore Shazam movies I'm glad we got these two. On another note, the Blue Beetle movie trailer was released today and I think it looks good. Nice to see something new and probably even more family friendly than Shazam.

Didn't you get the memo? It's in vogue to hate on DC movies now... all the cool kids are doing it, so it must be the right thing to do!

    Yes!

Blue Beetle looks great! I really like Xolo Mariduena in Cobra Kai, and I think he is the perfect Jaime Reyes... plus, Susan Sarandon!?!

I love how they have The Bug in the movie! I really hope that Ted Kord plays a pivotal role in the film... and doesn't turn out to be the bad guy or something.

I also hope that there is a teaser or hint at Booster Gold... (I love the BB / BG team ups!)

Yes, Gotham by Gaslight is one of my very favorite books! A Victorian era Batman solving the murder spree of a serial killer makes for some great storytelling!

The animated adaptation is really fun, although I wish that they stuck closer to Mignola's art style and didn't add so much unnecessary padding to the story...

I picked up the Batman B&W statue a little while ago...

    I must read the book.

    Very cool statues.

The Noir Toyz figure looks good but the Mezco One:12 figure looks amazing.

I don't think it's as much hate or thinking it's going to be bad as much as just disinterest. I'm someone that wouldn't mind seeing it eventually but am not really excited for it and have no plans to see it in the theater.

Jaime Reyes "Blue Beetle" is my fave DC Character and I love that they have kept his look pretty much comic accurate.

That's my biggest problem when they adapt shorter stories to 70 minutes. Its one thing to have a "director's cut" where stuff that was cut for time is added back in since it was supposed to be there. But having someone else add stuff just to fill time almost always weakens the overall. If anything, stick to the "script" and put 2 or 3 stories into more DC Showcase anthologies. Those have been fantastic.

Killing Joke might be the most egregious example. Its already one of the most overrated Batman stories ever and everything that was added just dragged it down horribly. It came off as a complete assassination of the Barbara Gordon character.

But overall, I prefer original stories over adaptations. Give me more Gods and Monsters quality of movies over a lesser version of an existing story.

Mostly because Victoria Kord is played by Susan Sarandon... there is no mention of Garrett anywhere.

    I completely agree.

The Killing Joke gets my vote for most disappointing adaptation that WB Animation has done.

Halfway through the movie you begin to wonder why they didn't just make an original animated feature... they completely missed the point of the original book, and dragged some characters through the mud along the way.

    Batman: Year One
is my favorite Bat-book of all time, and the animated version suffers from the padding effect™ as well. However, this mostly comes in the form of longer fight sequences because, why not? (eyeroll) The worst example is at the climax of the movie where Jim Gordon gets into a boxing match with the thug who is HOLDING JIM'S BABY IN ONE ARM?!? Ugh...

My love for Year One blinds me to a lot of this though, and so I let it get away with the foolishness.

The most amazing thing to me about the animated adaptation of The Killing Joke, is how for all of Hamill's bluster of how much he loved the book, how doing it as an animated feature would be the only thing that could make him "un-retire" as the Joker, and so on... his delivery in that movie is pretty awful.

I mean, it's "Mark Hamill's Joker", with everything that entails, so even at its worst it's not "terrible". But either he got bad direction, or didn't really "get" the book, or some combination thereof, because when you read the book and then watch the movie... he's saying the lines, but they totally hit the ear wrong. One that really stands out to me is the "Why aren't you laughing?" line near the end; in the book, it comes at a quieter moment during the fight, and looking at the artwork it is clear that it's a line meant to be delivered with sincerity, genuine confusion, and even a bit of pity. Joker truly thinks he's right, that the only way for things to make sense is to give in to madness, and he sincerely cannot fathom why Batman doesn't just give up and go along. He's not angry in that moment, he's confused, frustrated, vexed, but also feeling a tiny bit sorry for Batman. "Why can't you see it the way I do? It's so easy this way..." That is how that line is supposed to be delivered, and you can infer this simply by looking at the printed page.

So of course, in the animated version, they just have him scream the line like a deranged lunatic, thus entirely removing the pathos and dramatic weight from the scene. It's literally just a set-up line for Batman to knock him out and make a quip. It meant so much MORE in the comic, and having it delivered wrong out loud rendered it completely meaningless.

It seems like such a small thing, but the whole movie is like that, with Hamill over-playing the subtle parts and under-playing the ones that are supposed to be more bombastic, to the point where the whole thing is a wash. I wish I knew who to specifically blame, but I'll just go with Everyone, because there simply isn't much to like about that movie anyway. It's bad on so many levels.

Gotham By Gaslight was alright, but as usual it's much better if you have no idea about the comic the thing is based on. All of these things deviate from the source to some degree, but that was one of the ones where they kept the title and the costume and changed almost every single thing else, and frankly, I hate when they do that. Fortunately, I hadn't read the book yet, so that one went down a bit smoother, but then I did eventually read the book and as usual it made me wish I'd just gotten That instead.

I know people always snicker and such whenever anyone says this, but I can't help it; I've never seen a single one of those adaptations that was as good as its printed source material, and I always, always wish we'd just gotten a shot-for-shot adaptation of the book instead, with only the most innocuous possible deviation(s). I read stuff like "Batman: Venom" and think about how awesome it would be in animation (or live action)... then I realize that, at best, they'd keep the title and about 25% of the base elements and the rest would be Made-Up Blarney, and I'm glad they don't bother.

After the total botch-job they did on Reign of the Supermen, I don't think I've seen any since. That one made me especially angry and I haven't had much more than a passing interest in seeing any more since then. It's like some of these are made to spite Me, specifically, and it seems silly to keep going back to the well of disappointment when I can just read the comics again.

I mean, they're generally very well-crafted, if nothing else, that I will say. I'm just far too much of a purist to really enjoy them, especially when so many of them go out of their way to keep the title but then disregard the source material. Some of them are alright, I own a bunch and I've definitely liked a few, but there's only a few I really loved.
