I'm always pleased with the animated DC movies, except when they add too much adult language to some of them which kind of ruins things for me (it just doesn't *fit*), but I have always been pleased with the stories, characters and animation.

I always say this, I'm no prude, I know all Bette Midler's salty jokes with relish, but there is a time when it is appropriate and times when it is not. It's all about context.

So you were fine with Barbara Gordon being a horrible detective and only becoming Batgirl because she was basically a stalker that wanted to sleep with Batman?

Do you also find Elvis' performances to be scandalous?

I have always been a ****/Barbara shipper, so I hate it when they try to pair her with Bruce. I think another DC animated property did that too. It is gross.

It's very gross. Not only is she the daughter of the closest thing he has to a best friend, but he's a mentor and essentially a secondary father figure to her.

Now I could see Barbara having (at least initially) a bit of a "schoolgirl crush" on Bruce. But it would be out of character for her to act on it in any way - and even more out of character for Bruce to reciprocate.

The Bruce and Barbara...scene was where I quit watching the Killing Joke movie and haven't gone back. Also, as much as I love the DCAU, the treatment of the relationship between Batgirl and Robin/Nightwing (dismissing it as "puppy love," hinting at Bruce being her true love) was one of the things I really hated about it. I know there were reasons Nightwing got short shrift, but to me it's a blemish on what remains one of the best incarnations of the franchise.

Just....be glad you didn't check the comic adaptation. It somehow gets worse.

I find their conflation of her admiration with romantic interest to be sexist; as if, in their estimation, Barbara cannot simply admire Batman as a hero, and want to style her heroics after him as Batgirl, without also having a romantic interest in Bruce. Men and women can have relationships that do not involve romantic interests.

Rich and Barbara are a much more natural pairing. They are peers. They were both inspired by Batman to become heroes. And they both train together under him. They have a lot in common.

Bruce, on the other hand, is an authority figure. He is emotionally distant. He is singularly focused on his mission at the expense of his quality of life and interpersonal relationships.

There is just no scenario in which that pairing happens or makes any sense.

Lol at site censoring Grayson's name.

BTW in case someone's wondering what was that "Bruce/Barbara stuff got even worse in comics" stuff I talked about earlier.

In Batman Beyond comic it's revealed that Bruce impregnated Barbara while she was dating Robin. The story ends with cutting back-and-forth betwen scenes of Grayson beating the crap out of Bruce and Barbara having a miscarriage.

Yeah, I don't count Batman Beyond or the New Batman Adventures. For me, Batman: TAS ends with Sub-Zero, with Grayson and Babs together and Mr. Freeze's story getting a happy ending. It helps there's a lot of bad continuity and lazy writing in New Batman Adventures which makes it easier to disconnect both it and Beyond. I love Batman in Justice League, but it doesn't focus entirely on his world, and it's easy to ignore NBA there too.

Batman Beyond isn't even that good. I liked the first season, Return of the Joker, the JL episodes, but that's it. Once they lost Blight/Powers as a regular I lost interest.

    Ouch...

I enjoy Batman Beyond more than BTAS and NBA.

I understand the complaint about Blight... but, I really liked the creative rogues that Terry had to face throughout the entire series: Spellbinder, Inque, Curare, Shriek, Big Time, etc.

Inque is my favourite character in Batman Beyond. I adored the cute Eggbaby episode too.

I still think Barbara/Batgirl was good in the movie, I've always been a fan of the character.

I don't really watch a lot of Elvis so I can't comment on that.

Nothing wrong with them, I liked Inque and Curare, and the Royal Flush Gang, but a lot of the episodes post-Powers/Blight didn't feel important or engaging enough, at a time where more and more cartoons were becoming more arc-driven, Batman Beyond was still constant filler.

I love the character, but that wasn't her.

She was totally inept and ONLY became Batgirl because she wanted to be with Batman.

Look at her objectively and you'll see that's not Barbara Gordon.

Like others, there very much were characters I liked in Batman Beyond. I actually wanted to see Max's role get bigger, and for Terry's brother to become the new Robin. Not sure how I felt about them being Bruce's genetic sons--nice sentiment but absurd to actually do that. Agreed that Blight was kind of the big villain and they took him out way too early. I guess he felt too much like Green Goblin? I was sorry for that choice, I think the series could have gone to cooler places with him in place than it ultimately did.

For sure I really hated that the New Batman episodes and Return of the Joker basically combined Tim Drake and Jason Todd and ruined both in the process. It was before the Todd version of Red Hood came along, and maybe it partly inspired actually doing something with a revenant Jason Todd finally (although wasn't the psych out in Hush a bigger influence?). I had the same issue with John "Robin" Blake in Dark Knight Rises--it just didn't get or want to get those characters right. Then Snyder killed Grayson and not Todd for his movies? Geesh. I don't love all the DC animated movies, but I liked how Under the Red Hood handled things (opinions may vary--but that last "this is the best day of my life" hits me every time). And to me, the Damien Wayne movies (or at least Son of Batman and Batman vs Robin, maybe not Bad Blood) very much felt like a spiritual pay off to the R'as Al Ghul and Talia episodes of Batman TAS (at least way more so than what Batman Beyond did with them--ugh)! Though all that said, I don't think any movie has done great with Batgirl. If it has, I've missed it.

I accept nothing can be "perfect" (for me or at all), and my ideal is not everyone's, but I do think the Bat Family has a lot of potential that WB DC has not even touched in their movies. It's kind of mind boggling to me.

Max yes, a long forgotten character now. The producers wanted her to replace Dana as Terry's love interest but Bruce Timm was against it. He got in his own way an awful lot on his shows.

I liked the Batman Beyond show. Although I still prefered Batman The Animated Series but Batman Beyond was a good continuation of the show.

I just saw Shazam: Fury Of The Gods today at the cinema, it's the first time I've been out and about owing to illness, but I loved the movie and can't wait to get it on DVD. I love Jack Dylan Grazer as Young Freddy and Adam Brody as Super Freddy. I thought Helen Mirren and Lucy Liu were brilliant as Hespera and Kalypso, and I especially loved Gal Gadot's cameo as Wonder Woman.

They showed previews for The Flash which looks good too, and I am also looking forward to seeing The Little Mermaid next month as well.

Rachel Zegler was good as Freddy's love interest and the most human of the Daughters Of Atlas, and I look forward to seeing her in Snow White next year which will also star Gal Gadot as the Wicked Queen.

I'm torn about the Flash... not so much about Ezra and his unlawful exploits, but really about how this movie will fit in with the Gunn-verse.

If this is just a release-it-to-make-our-money-back and done, it will be a huge missed opportunity to use it as a sort of Flashpoint Paradox to reset the DCEU and lead into the Gunn-verse.

I think it will be like Flashpoint and re-boot the DC Universe..

At least your the one DC fan that will admit that Ezra Miller is done and should be in jail for what he did and can separate the two

I am pretty sure this will be some sort of soft reset. Blue Beetle seems small scale enough that it can fit in the Gunn-verse. I am intrigued how Aquaman 2 fits in, if it does at all.

I am definitely looking forward to Blue Beetle and Aquaman & The Lost Kingdom. Right now I am psyching up for The Little Mermaid and I am excited for that release.

The Flash and TMNT: Mutant Mayhem look good too. I am curious to see Leatherhead recreated as a female mutant alligator.

James Gunn has cast Clark Kent/Superman and Lois Lane for Superman Legacy. They are being played by David Corenswet and Rachel Brosnahan.
