The addition of characters like Frog Monger really get me excited because it's a character who's been there since the beginning who has never had an action figure. I thought I'd focus on some characters from 80s MOTU that never had a toy released in any line. Why 80s? Because I think for a lot of people, missing 80s characters are a special priority in their collections,
I figured I'd kick things off with ten names and see what you folks come up with.
10. Sharella from Powers of Grayskull. Perhaps the most important unmade character from that era. Her Battlecat helmet is one of my favorite features of her design. (She was later retconned as the Green Goddess but that wasn't part of her 80s lore.)
9. Songster from the Masters of the Universe Power Tour in 1987. Where else are you going to find a bard with an electric guitar who sings about the three towers of Eternia?
8. Evil Robot aka Spruzza Acqua of the Evil Horde. Mattel had plans to upsize a Japanese water squirting robot with a new head and deco. The mold would be used in LJN's Voltron line and later bootlegged. Mattel certainly owns the head, color scheme, and deco.
7. Scrollos. Keeper of the Scrolls. He answered the UK comic book letter column and was something of an observer, like The Watcher from Marvel Comics. He had a red and green outfit that was similar to 1960s Jor-El and a star on his forehead.
6. Lubic. Made famous by the 1987 MOTU movie, Lubic was a shotgun toting, grizzled police officer from Earth who moved to Eternia, played by character actor James Tolkan of Back to the Future and Top Gun fame. He appeared in the comics adaptation, looking a bit like Lex Luthor in fatigues as he stayed behind and had a costume designed by William Stout in the movie.
5. Andros. Evil Ram-Horned Warrior of Skeletor. Seen in just the first episode of The New Adventures of He-Man, Andros is Skeletor's chief henchman who is left behind when he leaves Eternia.
4. Minox. Master of Mazes and Minotaur-Headed Servant of Skeletor. Minox comes from the Italian magazine, Mattel Magic Boy.
3. Shezar. Aquatic Anti-Hero from Antar the Fifth Star. In the 1987 Brazilian comics, she kidnapped the women of Eternia but ultimately sided with He-Man against Skeletor.
2. Negator from Filmation. The main villain of TWO Filmation episodes and voiced by Alan Oppenheimer, Negator controls machines and electricity.
1. An unnamed one!
Ted Mayer (designer of countless MOTU figures) had an Abominable Snowman concept that I think would have reused Beast Man/Moss Man parts with a new head as an evil albino snow ape! This character had blue gloves, belt pouches, and blue high tech chest armor along with a climbing gear, a gun, and green skis with an evil warrior motif that could be stowed on his back!
