The Last of Us on HBO

Has anyone been watching this? (Final episode airs tonight!)

I am amazed at how well they translated the video game to the screen... probably one of the greatest video game stories ever (but, nothing new for Naughty "Uncharted" Dog.)

The show actually manages to evoke even more emotion and give better insight to the story at large.

If you haven't played the game(s) or watched the show, I highly recommend that you do both. (Game first!)

I will warn you... when season 2 arrives, and it continues to adapt the game's narrative, bring a box of tissues!

I'm a huge fan of both games and they did such an amazing job bringing part 1 to life with the show. I can't wait for the upcoming seasons to bring part 2 to life!

I watched and I very much enjoyed it. I hadn't played the game since it originally released, so I didn't remember much (except the ending). I was a little surprised by how few zombies (or whatever they're called) there were in the show's narrative. I knew there were a ton of human bad guys in the game too, but I seemed to remember a lot more zombies. The show seemed like a relatively zombie-free zombie apocalypse, especially in the back half.

I didn't play the second game, but I remember a buddy of mine giving me the story run down. I also know it was VERY divisive. Through the whole first season I was thinking, "I wonder if they'll go in a completely different direction for season 2."

There are certainly more clicker encounters in the game, but they are generally used for pacing the flow of the narrative and keep the player from speeding through the experience.

I am shocked and amazed at how well this series adapted the story from The last of Us - even adding extra background on many aspects we don't get to see in the game... but, this shouldn't be surprising considering the head writer for the games is also the writer for the HBO series.

So many times throughout season one I was legitimately choked-up. I cannot recommend this show highly enough... with or without prior knowledge of the game series.

As for the second game... well, there is no other way to describe it other than a masterpiece. Without spoiling anything, the story grabs your attention from the get-go and demands that you hold on for the entire ride. Other adjectives that come to mind are gut wrenching, provocative, classic, heartbreaking, and emotionally draining. A true, modern masterwork in digital media.

And this doesn't even describe the incredible gameplay, gorgeous graphics, and pitch-perfect music.

    Pure. Joy. (and sadness.)

As I already said, when season two arrives, bring a box of tissues.

I’ve just started this series with my 14yo. We are only a couple of episodes in so far. I have no knowledge of the game and my son knows a little bit about it. We are enjoying so far and I quite like the whole fungus slant on it. My only critique is one that applies to all these kind of things, the whole it all kicks off in one day. Everything is normal then in less than 24 hours the whole world is affected. But I guess after Covid-19 we’ve seen how quickly these things escalate. But I suppose we need to get straight into the story.
Other than that I’m pretty in to it.

Excellent series. I'm a sucker for most things post apocalyptic, so it was right up my alley from the start. I've never played the game, much less heard of it as I ditched games years ago.

It's well done. Each episode has a different twist on the journey and the characters lure you in. You "think" that they'll go along for the ride, but they don't. Nothing drags. There's no walking through the woods week after week like "The Walking Dead" with little to nothing accomplished. Things HAPPEN in this show and also unlike The Walking Dead it doesn't take seasons to wipe even the most average character off the map.

    Can't wait for season 2!!

If you like apocalyptic stuff, then keep an eye out for Silo coming out soon. I’m very much looking forward to it as the books ‘the wool trilogy’ by Hugh howie were amazing. Basically America and the world has gone to s*** and what remains of live in a silo deep beneath the earths surface. Full of twists and turns. Highly recommend the books. Hoping the series will be as good

Yep. They could have easily stretched the events from the first game into two seasons, but instead, they handled it with panache and didn't treat their viewers like idiots.

Season two, however, may be broken into two separate parts / seasons because the second game is so much bigger... and, it follows the journeys of two different characters.

Agreed. Every episode is meaningful and well-made.

No corners were cut, and in fact, they added a lot of stuff that gamers never got to see or only knew about through in-game notes/banter...

That's fine by me. Whenever something's good it always gives you that sense of "it went too quick." If the content is good and worthy of being stretched out into "whatever" I'm totally fine with it. That's just more to enjoy.
