    Framing my vintage figures

On a trip to IKEA I picked up a couple of deep frames that I thought would be ideal to display a couple of my vintage figures in. The frame is called SANNAHED and measures 25x25cm/12x12". In order to position the figures inside the frame I needed a mount that could hold the figures. I designed some small brackets/mounts that keep the figures spaced out a little from the backboard, held in place with a thin metal wire, looped around the gap in the waist of the figures. I cut some white cardboard for backboards, entered and punched two holes for the mount and attached the figure with the wire, before mounting it inside the frame.

The plan is to choose my fav 9 or 16 vintage figures and display them in a 3x3/4x4 grid on a single wall, naturally more would be pretty cool, but I simply don't have enough available wallspace at the moment.

Pretty cool idea! They look good but my eye wants some sort of background behind them within the frame

Looks great! You should also attach their accessories to the back of the frame next to the figure

Dude that looks great! Nice work on designing the standoff mount. I like it with the white background. It's super clean and makes the figure stick out as a work of art in and of itself. A background if done properly could look good, but it might distract you from the figure, which should be the main focal point IMO.

I display my figures kind of similarly in a black shadow box frame, but instead of standoff mounts there's a little shelf for the figures to stand on.

I completely agree. I really like the simplicity of it. I think a background would just distract and take away from the figure being the focal point. Although if you could find a way to attach the weapons around or beside the figures it might look pretty good.

    I appreciate the input!
I played with the idea of making the obvious exploding red rocks graphics etc, and I have already made some high res files for some other projects (like the Savage He-Man cards I did a few years back). I think a subtle one tone color could be cool as well, but I wanted these clean at this point.

The cheap IKEA frame is also available in black which would change the feel somewhat.

As some of you mention, I have also thought about making some clips for accessories, but yet again I want the figures themselves to be centre of attention. Naturally accessories could simply be mounted like most loose figures displayed on a shelf. The frames are pretty deep, but obviously some figures like Webstor or Whiplash might present problems in various ways when it comes to mounting (but I'll figure out a workaround if needed - that's half the fun).

When I get some time, I might design some clips for accessories, and even name tags for each character, we'll see. I got the idea from looking at shadow boxes for some of my vintage skateboard collection, and thought this would be a cool way to display some of my loose figures too - different from what I've seen and how I would display them otherwise.

Very unique display. I think some matte pastel backgrounds might look nice.
