Variety Is the Spice of Life - 200X All Over Again.. Why Origins is Dying at Retail..

Like many of you, I've been surprised by the lack of variety of figures available over the past several years of the Origins line. I'll accept that Covid played a large role in the first year or two, preventing distribution of newer waves, etc. However, it doesn't explain why I still can only find wave 7 in most retail stores.. Buzz Off, Sorceress, Jitsu, Repaint Stratos.. I visited three different major retail stores in the past several months, Target, Walmart, Meijer, even a freaking bookstore, Barns and Noble, and the only wave available was wave 7. PS, Speaking as an American..

Why was this wave so over supplied to the point at which it mirrors the "Spin Blade Skeletor / Frost Armor He-man explosion that likely played a role in the early death of the 200X line? This is either terrible brand management or absolute indifference to the past. Whatever. Mattel hires absolute morons to run their line apparently. Start firing people and figure your bs out. You have a lot of people eager to spend money on your toys, just stop sending us wave 7 to every outlet that sells them to us.

Mattel just sends what the retailer orders. Clearly all the retailers over ordered wave 7, but it’s on them to clear them out if they aren’t selling, and seemingly Walmart refuses to do that.

My closest Walmart got Wave 1, plus tons of He-Man and Skeletor, then got nothing until wave 8. Got one case of wave 8, which sold in two days, then never restocked again until the recent aisle refresh when they eliminated the pegs for origins altogether.

It wasn't over supplied, it just under sold. Because of the difficulty of acquiring figures in the lines prior to this one, many of us already purchased the figures we wanted from this line prior to them being flooded into Walmarts and Target.

The wave 1 line warmed the shelves for over a year at my Wal-mart. Kids did not buy them. They went on clearance eventually and then just disappeared. Wal-mart won't keep re-ordering merchandise that doesn't sell. The computers don't think, "Oh but this is Trap-Jaw, people will buy him". They just stop ordering the product altogether. And if they order it and it's not moving anywhere, it just sits on the shelf until clearance time.

None of the Wal-marts in my area are selling any type of MOTU product at this time. It didn't sell in stores because kids aren't interested.

This argument has been made before. We've commented on it before. Instead of wasting time and air on this very old topic, please use the search function and read those old posts. We're very likely to repeat ourselves and I would rather prefer discussing a new topic that hasn't been rehashed several times in the past.

Someone's never heard of online retailers or pre-ordering.

To be fair, this site's search has been broken for a long time (years?) "connection to localhost:9312 failed (errno=111, msg=Connection refused)"
"I wouldn't be surprised if this movie has Adam as a skinny nerd from Earth battling another skinny nerd-hacker from Earth that used an alias of Keldor. They then enter Tron-style to a cyber world called Eternia, where they control muscle-bound avatars to battle (called He-Man and Skeletor). And these same avatars come to life and continue to battle in present-day Earth." - VZX

Yes, the search function is still down. It will be updated during the next shutdown. And as others have stated, this has been discussed multiple time before in the Origins - General News Thread. No need to start a new thread and rehash this all over again.
