The LEGO and MEGA Brick exchange

I know this might be better suited for the miscellaneous marketplace, but since the MEGA brand is synonymous with MOTU, I feel that it would be better suited for this forum. Mods feel free to move this, but I'd like to ask you to please allow it to stay here, as more people will see it. (Lol, kisses.)

I know there is e-bay and bricklink, but e-bay is not always helpful and I personally don't use bricklink because of some stipulations in their user agreement that I don't like. So, I was thinking, maybe we could start a brick exchange here where we can post our needs and hope to do trades or sales for specific bricks or lots.

I'll be honest, I can see this being handled a few different ways. Either there is one big thread for everyone to post their wants or extra pieces, or everyone has their own thread, or there is a "want" thread for anyone to use and also a "have" thread for anyone to use. I could see pros and cons to all, but ultimately I think that a unified thread would be best. If you have a 'want' thread I would think it would get less traffic than the 'have' thread. If everyone had their own thread it would clutter up this section of the forum. So, in my opinion, a collective thread for anyone to post their haves and wants would be best. My guess is there won't be a lot of people posting haves, because (in my case any way) there would be too many to list. I think posting your wants would be a more streamlined process, allowing those that have what you're looking for to help you out. I also think it would be best to categorize by color. I tend to go by the color names that LEGO uses on their website, but bricklink and other sites use different names, so maybe designating which one you prefer would help a lot. I'll do my best to set my list up as a template to follow, so hopefully that will help.

    THREAD RULES SUMMARY:

    (01) This thread is for wants only

    (02) Anyone can post their wants here

    (03) Please follow my template

PARTS I AM LOOKING FOR colors as LEGO defines:

    Teal

    corner plate x2

    2x2 brick

    1x2 roof brick x2

    2x2 roof brick x1

1x2 brick with 2 studs on one side x2

    2x4 plate x2

    1x1 down building brackets x2

I have A TON more wants than this, I'm just putting this out as a feeler, so feedback is much appreciated. I know there are brick builders out there, and it would be nice if we could get to know each other and help each other out.

Would it be cheaper if you went to bricklink? There's a ton of sellers there, many with 100% feedback and that's where I usually get my LEGO from.

I usually make a Wanted List, add all of the parts, quantities, and colours in, then do an Easy Buy to see roughly how much it'd cost me.

An alternative is using LEGO's pick-a-brick.

Sometimes, depending on the part and/or colour, LEGO's website is cheaper (but there is usually a wait time of up to 15 days, so if need the parts in a hurry and don't mind potentially paying more, go the bricklink route).

An example is I am trying to build a Black Falcon company ... the cheapest local bricklink seller I could find was going to cost me around 8 to 9 dollars per minifigure. It would be quicker than LEGO's pick-a-brick, however using LEGO's website it costs me around 6 dollars per minifigure. As I am getting 100 of these I decided to use LEGO's pick-a-brick.

I've used Pick-a-brick many times. I love that feature so much. But like you said, it's slow. All of my orders from there have taken about 30 days, the only exception being when they recently started separating all orders by best sellers parts, which ship pretty quickly, and all others which are always 30 days for me.

As for Brick link, I don't like their user agreement, which you have to agree with to join. It says that if they get sued for my builds, then I pay their legal fees. There are other things I don't like about that agreement, but that's the number one problem I have.

I was hoping for an exchange here because it would be fan to fan, and hopefully cheap and fast. But, it doesn't seem to have garnered much interest, so I guess it's dead in the water. I took a shot in the dark and it failed. At least I tried though; it could have been very nice.

Fair enough, apart from those two avenues, there is also Brickowl, but I think they do not have as many bricks. The other options, if you do not care for the LEGO brand and are simply after compatible parts with the same level of quality, you could try webrick.com . I have heard great things regarding the quality of their pieces.

I do not have many pieces, and generally do not buy pieces for the sake of stocking up - I buy what I need if I want to build something. Plus I doubt my process and/or infrastructure would be as good as any bricklink seller, I also most likely wouldn't be able to match shipping prices with sellers closer to where you are. Chances are if you buy from me it's going to take longer than LEGO's own pick-a-brick!
