The most powerful He-Man fan site in the universe is back!
As many of you know, He-Man.Org closed down in late 2023. The site, which was founded in 1997, grew into a huge juggernaut over the years, accumulating hundreds of thousands of images, thousands of news posts, and probably tens of thousands of forum threads. Eventually it simply became too big and too expensive to keep hosting in its existing format.
At the time the Org was shutting down, Val Staples (the site’s owner) reached out to me to see if I would be willing to take over managing the site. Neither of us wanted to see it go away forever!
I agreed that I would take over running the Org. However it wasn’t possible to just resurrect the old site – it would have to be rebuilt. For the last several months, my friends Jukka Issakainen, Ben Massa and I have been working to recreate different sections of the original site. Here is our philosophy:
- Rebuild the most important resources of the old site (primarily focused on toy collection sections, scans of comics, books and magazines, and archives of prototype images)
- Reuse the best images from the original site
- Get all new scans and pictures to replace some of the low res images from the original site (many of which were decades old!)
- Try to give the new Org some of the look and feel of the original
We are really just getting started, and it will take some time to fully build out He-Man.Org 2.0. The site is “under construction” but please feel free to explore what we have created so far! You can check back on the Battle Ram Blog Facebook page and the front page of He-Man.Org for announcements of updates to the site as we continue to work on things.
One thing that’s slightly different this time is that everything is sorted by era (Vintage MOTU, POP, New Adventures, 200x, Classics, etc). So for example, MOTU comics from the vintage era will be in the Vintage MOTU section. There isn’t a single “Print Media” section like in the old days. If you want 200x comics, go to the 200x section!
You’re probably wanting to ask, what about the forums side of the Org? When is that coming back? We’re not yet sure if we will bring the forums back. I remember the forums fondly just like many of you, but toward the end of the original site, not many people were posting. Most had moved on to social media. Personally I prefer forums to social media, but I’m not sure that the genie can be put back in the bottle.
In any case, the added level of complexity and management required for forums is not something we really have time to handle right now. We’re going to be pretty busy rebuilding the resource side of things. But I will create a He-Man.Org Facebook group in the meantime for discussion and feedback on the new site we are creating.
We hope you enjoy the site! Please be patient as we continue to update it with new resources and sections. We will also be reaching out to the community for help. If you have the ability to scan and share MOTU and POP comics, books, and magazines from any era, please let us know!
