The Masters of the Universe Classics line began as a pitch from the Four Horsemen to Mattel. Their idea was to recreate the classic look and bulky proportions of the original 1980s line, but with modernized articulation, paint and sculpted detail. They also opted for the seven inch scale, reasoning that since fans had gotten bigger since childhood, larger figures would “feel” like having the originals in your hand when you were a child. The Four Horsemen presented a prototype He-Man figure to Mattel, who opted to display it in a case at their booth during San Diego Comic-Con in 2007. Based on overwhelmingly positive reaction from fants, Mattel greenlit the line, which at first was going to be limited to the original eight characters from the vintage line. Due to strong sales, the line was expanded and eventually adopted an online subscription model, under Brand Manager Scott Neitlich. The figures were sold only online, with the exception of a limited run of Toys “R” Us exclusive two packs and some overstock given to Big Lots at one point. In this section you will find a guide to all of the MOTU Classics figures, as well as some scans of associated comics, magazines, and ads.
