Mattel and Amazon Reveal First Look at Snake Mountain for Masters of the Universe Film

At Brand Licensing Europe 2025, Ruth Henriquez, EMEA Head, Licensing, Publishing and Location-Based Experiences, Mattel) and Greg Coleman, (Global Head, Integrated Marketing, Amazon Studios), offered new information and revealed an exclusive look at Snake Mountain in the upcoming Masters of the Universe film.

“[Masters of the Universe] has never gone away, it continued to reinvent itself. This feels like the perfect moment. Fans have been asking for more and we know there is a trend powered by nostalgia. Most importantly, we have been waiting for the perfect partner and creative team to bring ‘Masters of the Universe’ to life in a way that feels epic,” said Henriquez. “For us, it needs to feel timeless, it needs to feel like coming home for the long-time fans, but it needs to feel like discovering a new world for first-time viewers.”

“This is a very personal story for me – I was and still am a huge ‘Masters of the Universe’ fan” says Coleman. “Like so many kids, I embraced and loved it. What’s special is that [the film] is staying true to the fanbase and offering them something brand new. Anyone who is an action fan, fantasy, sci-fi or superhero: All these genres are coming together and celebrate something on screen so beautifully done.”

Coleman spoke about the joint efforts shared between Mattel and Amazon/MGM and the importance of honoring the brand’s existing fanbase.

“As a studio, we want to put excellence on screen. There’s an existing fan base, and we can lean into that. It’s not only about what’s new and established, but there are different offerings across all Amazon platforms. With our legacy at MGM, tying it in with Amazon, we have the best of both worlds,” said Coleman. “For the long-term fans, there are Easter eggs in the film but stepping back, the entry point for fans is broad. “The entry point will be very approachable for everyone. This will be the film everyone will be talking about.”

Coleman further spoke to the narrative of the upcoming film and the importance of its powerful main characters, He-Man and Skeletor.

“Skeletor is one of the most delicious villains of all-time, but there’s also a story of Adam, who is a regular person who has to grab the power,” says Coleman. “It’s always within him, and it’s revealed in a powerful way. We have this full dimensional cast and [director] Travis Knight who had a vision. Even if you have never seen ‘Masters of the Universe,’ it’s a fun, entertaining story.”

“Masters of the Universe” will release in theaters June 5, 2026.
